2011 Local Human Service Transit Coordination Plan

June 8, 2011 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

You are invited to attend a one-day workshop as part of 2011 Local Human Service Transit Coordination Plan for the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission region. Currently, numerous individuals in our region have difficulty getting to medical appointments, the grocery store, church, visiting family and friends, or fully participating in other important activities due to lack of transportation. The Minnesota Legislature and the Minnesota Department of Transportation has asked us to address these issues through a coordinated planning process.

Coordinated transportation is meant to maximize consumers’ access to all existing transportation services, including public, private, non-profit, and human services entities, while minimizing duplication of service provision. The goal of the 2011 Local Human Service Transit Coordination Plan is to

  • identify the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities, older adults, and people with low incomes;
  • provide strategies for meeting those needs;
  • and prioritize transportation services for funding and implementation in Big Stone, Swift, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, and Yellow Medicine Counties.

This workshop is an opportunity to provide your insight into the needs, issues and barriers that exist among transportation services and identify strategies to better coordinate transportation resources in the future.

Workshop details:

When: June 8, 2011, 10:00—3:00pm (lunch provided)

Where: Appleton Civic Center, 323 West Schlieman Ave., Appleton MN

RSVP: 320-289-1981, extension 8

Thank you in advance for making time in your schedule to attend this workshop. Without your knowledge and experience, a complete view of the current situation and the possible solutions for the future cannot be achieved. To ensure the final plan represents the diversity of needs within this region, a broad group of stakeholders is invited to the workshop. These include public transit providers, private transportation providers, non-profit transportation providers, area agencies on aging, workforce development centers, advocacy organizations, county human services representatives, local government officials, health care organizations, and others.

Because lunch is provided at the workshop, RSVPs are required. Please respond to the UMVRDC at 320-289-1981, extension 8 or umvrdc@umvrdc.org. If you have any questions about the workshop or require special accommodations to participate, please contact Dawn Hegland at the UMVRDC at 320-289-1981, extension 1.
