SUMMARY:2011 Southwest Minnesota "Toward Zero Deaths" Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Toward Zero Deaths is a multi-agency partnership that includes representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation\, Minnesota Department of Public Safety\, Minnesota State Patrol\, Federal Highway Administration\, and the Center for Transportation Studies\, University of Minnesota\, to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on MN roadways and work to the goal of toward zero deaths.  The partnership extends to the local level to involve representatives of the four E’s:   Engineering\, Enforcement\, Education and Emergency Services.  The Southwest Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths initiative aims to create a collaborative\, comprehensive\, and regional approach to reduce traffic deaths and severe injuries in the southwestern Minnesota counties of Chippewa\, Kandiyohi\, Lac qui Parle\, Lincoln\, Lyon\, McLeod\, Meeker\, Murray\, Pipestone\, Redwood\, Renville\, Yellow Medicine\, Big Stone\, Swift\, Cottonwood\, Rock\, Nobles and Jackson.  This workshop will help facilitate this initiative and provides an opportunity to bring the program into your community. \nFor more info\, go to www.minnesotatzd.org.

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend a one-day workshop as part of 2011 Local Human Service Transit Coordination Plan for the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission region. Currently\, numerous individuals in our region have difficulty getting to medical appointments\, the grocery store\, church\, visiting family and friends\, or fully participating in other important activities due to lack of transportation. The Minnesota Legislature and the Minnesota Department of Transportation has asked us to address these issues through a coordinated planning process. \nCoordinated transportation is meant to maximize consumers’ access to all existing transportation services\, including public\, private\, non-profit\, and human services entities\, while minimizing duplication of service provision. The goal of the 2011 Local Human Service Transit Coordination Plan is to \n\nidentify the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities\, older adults\, and people with low incomes;\nprovide strategies for meeting those needs;\nand prioritize transportation services for funding and implementation in Big Stone\, Swift\, Chippewa\, Lac qui Parle\, and Yellow Medicine Counties.\n\nThis workshop is an opportunity to provide your insight into the needs\, issues and barriers that exist among transportation services and identify strategies to better coordinate transportation resources in the future. \nWorkshop details: \nWhen: June 8\, 2011\, 10:00—3:00pm (lunch provided) \nWhere: Appleton Civic Center\, 323 West Schlieman Ave.\, Appleton MN \nRSVP: 320-289-1981\, extension 8 \nThank you in advance for making time in your schedule to attend this workshop.
