Bike to School Day is May 8 – Don’t forget to register!

Posted by Melissa Streich | April 11, 2019

This May 8th, thousands of students, families, community partners and elected officials will celebrate Bike to School Day, a national event that encourages bicycling (or walking) to school. Students reap the health, community and academic benefits of a little bit of exercise before school while having fun riding bicycles with their peers.

Register your school early to receive a toolkit from Minnesota Safe Routes to School to help make your event a success.

Free marketing materials are available to use at your school to make planning easier, including social media messages, posters, and more.

A statewide poster contest asking students “how does it feel to ride a bicycle” is available to help all students participate in Bike to School Day. Thanks to a partnership with Quality Bicycle Products and Dero Bike Racks, MNSRTS will be giving bike-themed prizes to winning submissions.

National Safe Routes Census

The Safe Routes to School National Partnership is asking for your help and participation in the Safe Routes to School Program Census. This survey will help advocates and practitioners track trends, progress and provide targeted support and resources to local communities working to advance walking and biking to school.

Save the Date – SRTS Statewide Meet-Up

There is still time to register for the Statewide SRTS training on May 21. A full agenda is available on the website. This event will provide time to learn about SRTS resources, innovative strategies, and meet colleagues working across the state. MnDOT, MDH, and Center for Prevention at Blue Cross is hosting the event.
