Clontarf, Danvers, Benson and DeGraff were awarded $25,000 from the State Fire Marshal’s Office to complete a shared fire and rescue services study for the four cities. The UMVRDC will be assisting a local taskforce with the following elements of the study:
- Benchmarking existing fire services by examining staffing, budget, technology, political environments and facilities.
- Determining if shared services make sense from service level, political, technological and financing perspective.
- Making recommendations for shared operational models, governance, funding, staffing, technology and facilities.
Shared Services Defined:
Shared Services can refer to any number of methods where fire and rescue service organizations are doing something together to become more effective or more efficient. The shared service concept does not necessarily mean a savings in terms of money.
The study is required to be completed by December 31st, 2011. For more information contact an RDC Planner at 320-289-1981.
