The Clara City/Maynard Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) comprehensive grant ended on December 31, 2010.
The grant activity included:
- $217,000 for rehabilitating 16 owner-occupied units (homes);
- $104,400 for rehabilitating 6 commercial units;
- $243,500 for the Maynard Community Center; and
- $81,724 for administration.
The UMVRDC acted as administrators of the grant, while Prairie Five acted as project administrators.
“We were one of only two community centers funded in the entire state in 2008. The Maynard Event Center project has helped us clean up dilapidated buildings and bring new life to main street,” said Maynard City Clerk, Kathy Howard. “The project proved to be a huge success. Many groups around the region have utilized the space for meetings and trainings.” Howard also noted that the City of Maynard will celebrate 125 years in 2012, and the community will be sure to utilize the event center at their 4th of July Celebration.
