I joined the UMVRDC as a Regional Community Development Specialist in January 2018. I serve primarily as the commission’s transportation planner assisting and participating in the Transportation Alternatives and Safe Routes to School programs. I am also a volunteer firefighter and first responder. Before starting at the UMVRDC, I served nine years as a Civil Affairs Specialist in the Army Reserves where I spent a year in the Horn of Africa working on various social and economic development projects throughout the country of Djibouti. Some examples include partnering with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization on community supported agriculture programs, conducting English Language courses to improve regional employability, and facilitating regional health and dental hygiene outreach programs. I have a Bachelor of Arts in International Politics with a concentration in International Relations, and I am currently pursuing a Masters of Professional Studies in Community and Economic Development, both from Pennsylvania State University.
