We are well aware of the challenges communities are facing in regard to housing as housing-related issues showed up in five of the top 11 most important topics in our most recent Annual Regional Survey. One way to help your community address local housing issues may be to participate in the Housing Institute offered by Minnesota Housing Partnership (MHP). The Housing Institute brings together housing leaders and stakeholders to share their experiences, learn best practices, and develop creative solutions for bringing quality affordable housing to their communities.
Through the Housing Institute, local teams work together over a 14-month period, meeting regularly to address a specific housing need or challenge in their community. In past rounds of the Housing Institute, local housing teams have worked together to pursue a variety of specific projects, including the development of housing studies, websites, senior housing, workforce housing, supportive housing, single family rehab, and more.
If your community is interested in applying to participate in the Housing Institute or just wants to learn more, you are invited to join us on Tuesday, March 18 at 1pm at the Appleton Civic Center to hear Leah Hall of MHP give an overview of the program. MHP is currently seeking applications from Southwest MN communities for the next round of participants in their Housing Institute program which will begin in June. Applications are due in early April, so if you are interested in applying or would like to learn more, please consider joining us on the 18th!
In addition, Kayla Klein of Habitat for Humanity of West Central MN will also be present to introduce herself and talk about their organization and how they can work with communities.
The event is free, but we’d appreciate you registering HERE by Monday, March 17 to help us plan for the event. We hope to see you there!
